Finding the Right HRT For You
Key Information
- Finding the right HRT is a partnership between you and your GP, based on your health, symptoms, and personal preference
- Which Hormones? If you have had a hysterectomy, you'll likely need Oestrogen-only HRT. If you still have your womb, you will need Combined HRT (oestrogen and progesterone) to protect the womb lining.
- Which Method? HRT can be taken through the skin via patches, gels, or sprays, whichdo not carry an increased risk of blood clots. It can also be taken as a daily tablet.
- Which Routine? If you are still having periods, your HRT will be 'cyclical' to give you a planned monthly bleed. If your periods have stopped for over a year, we can aim for a 'continuous' no-bleed routine.
What Happens Next?
By understanding these key questions - which hormones, which method, and which routine - you can feel more prepared and confident when discussing your options with us.
Remember, HRT is not a 'one-size-fits-all' treatment. We will work with you to find the right fit, and sometimes it takes a little trial and error to get the dose and type just right.
