  • Spotting a "Real Fire": There are specific red flags that indicate a more serious problem. These include difficulty breathing, inability to swallow (leading to drooling), or a muffled "hot potato" voice.
  • Confidence to Manage: Knowing the difference gives you the confidence to manage safe symptoms at home, while knowing exactly when to pick up the phone.

When to Contact Us: (Red Flags)

Please do not ignore the alarm if you experience any of the following red flag, "Real Fire", symptoms:

  • Breathing: You are struggling to breathe.
  • Swallowing: You cannot swallow fluids or saliva, or you are drooling because you cannot swallow.
  • Voice Changes: Your voice sounds muffled, as if you have a hot potato in your mouth.
  • Fever: You have a very high temperature that does not come down with painkillers.
  • Worsening: You feel very unwell in yourself and are getting worse rather than better.
