Living Well with COPD: Building Your Toolkit
Key Information
- Beyond Inhalers: While inhalers are a key part of managing COPD, they are not the only tools that can help you feel better.
- The Toolkit: There are several effective treatments you can add to your “toolkit” to help manage symptoms and improve your quality of life.
Tool 1: Pulmonary Rehabilitation
- What is it? A structured programme of exercise and education, delivered by a team of specialists.
- The Benefits: It can reduce breathlessness, improve your fitness, and help you feel more in control of your condition.
- Action: If you have not been offered this, it is important to ask us about it.
For more information about pulmonary rehabilitation, please visit the Asthma + Lung UK website.
Tool 2: Vaccinations (Your Protection)
Chest infections can worsen COPD and can be serious. Keeping your vaccinations up to date is an important way to protect your lungs.
- Flu Vaccine: Recommended every year (usually in autumn).
- Pneumonia Vaccine: Usually given as a one-off injection.
- COVID-19: Stay up to date with any recommended boosters.
Take Control
By adding tools like pulmonary rehabilitation and vaccinations to your routine, you can take greater control of your COPD and improve your day-to-day life.
